Strengths: Classy 8-year-old has been there, done that, proving his class by winning the 2004 Breeders' Cup Turf. Beat BC Mile hero Artie Schiller in 2006 on neutral ground at 9 furlongs at Pimlico, in 2007 won the grade 1 Manhattan off a slow pace. He gets better!
Weaknesses: Deep closer has needed the aide of a pacesetting "rabbit" in many of his wins and is susceptible to the early pace scenario every time out. Older veterans often lose that explosive turn of foot, and historically those aged 6 and older have struggled mightily in the BC Turf. Obviously Blackie is an exception!
In The Genes: Son of Canadian champion and Wood Memorial winner Talkin Man. Dam, Bendita, also produced Grade 2 turf stakes-placed runner B.A. Way and Grade 3-placed Beat The Play.
Bet You Didn't Know: Better Talk Now registered his first career win July 6, 2002 at Churchill Downs.
Things you might not know about me
Did you know: my barn name is Blackie, I like to stand in my stall with my back legs crossed, I had a temper after the Woodford Reserve this year (you would have too!), I get hand walked every afternoon which is when I like to eat. You see, I really don't like to eat my own food, it seems to me that the food of others is much tastier than mine! I also live for the limelight and attention from the public. Just look at this pose I struck here for my adoring fans! Did I mention I hate taking baths? Oh and BTW, Fanella is my best friend!
