Description of Rescue
Bourbon Road Animal Sanctuary is a farm animal rescue in northeast Kansas. We are located 20 miles west of Atchison, in Muscotah. Our mailing address is: 5549 Bourbon Road, Muscotah, Kansas 66058.
Our primary focus is equines and farm animals. However, all creatures are welcome on our grounds. We are not licensed to adopt out dogs and cats and must send them to other rescues. Our adoption policies are in line with most reputable rescues. We do not charge adoption fees, but sometimes as for payment of services such as coggins tests for equines traveling out of state.
We have been in operation since June of 2004. We are also 501(C)3. There are no permanent donors or regular funding sources for our operations. Most is out of pocket. At this time, our pockets are quite empty. I lost most of my income the first part of December. The ex paid the household bills and I worked at home to fund the rescue. When he left he took all the income and I was left with nothing. He even managed to destroy or to take all my tools that could have been used or sold.
Our residents are primarily the worst of the worst. All have some form of problem with sight, ability to walk, age, temperament or other physical handicap. Though in our setting all our animals are healthy and happy, they have all come from abusive, neglectful or other dire situations.
I have applied for a building fund to help to restore the north side of the barn and to further winterize it. I have heard nothing as yet about this application.
All donations and gifts in kind are very much appreciated. We need anything and everything. Food, medical supplies, flea and tick repellant, fly spray, builidng materials. We have even had people send a box of knick knacks to put on eBay. Our rescue is also a participant in the Mission Fish charity works on eBay. Items can be listed by the seller and the funds or a portion of the funds can then be directed to our pay pal account.

We will work with any reputable rescue. We have a good working relationship with Humane Society of Atchison.
Feedback from FOBs
We have had two wonderful articles in the Atchison Daily Globe about our facility.[1][2] We don't get many voluteers here as most people are farm people in our area and work long, hard days. Most of the work done here is done by family members.
I have applied to the Atchison Community Corrections to qualify for community service volunteers.
