Bio
My name is Christine McCollister and I live in Lincoln Nebraska. I became enthralled with Barbaro from the Kentucky Derby. I am not a huge racing fan but i do enjoy watching those triple crown races every year, sometimes go to the local track/simulcsst to watch them. After the Preakness, I saw the horrible breakdown and i wanted to know what was happening. I found the updates from Alex eventualy and read those, posted on the comments and generally watched his ups and downs. When he was put down that day, i just lost it. That is when i found the other message board and i was able to connect with so many others feelings.
I have one dog and one cat and two horses. Daughter too, 17.
Horse experience
I had horses as a youngster. I love paint horses above all else, although as I have grown older I have developed an appreciation for all breeds of horses. I showed until my youth career was done and went to college and had a life after. 9 years ago I purchased a yearling paint mare. She is a wonderful dear and I adore her. In my minds eye before I bought her, when I think of having a horse, I saw her. She is just everything I could want. A beauty queen too. I rode her out her first 2 years, she was easy. I bred her when she was 5 and her colt is now 4, I am keeping him forever I have decided because he is definitely at risk of going who knows where as a breeding stock gelding. He is also bit of a stinker too.
See that? NO WHITE!
Now my riding consists of what i call plinking around the pastures, usually bareback.
I toy with the idea of showing, but its just too much work!
This is miss holly, my love under the apple tree.

Here are the three muskateers, that is their roomie Jingles the percheron. He is 18 hands at least.
I also have a dog, Mousse and a kitty Silkey. Mousse weighed 92 lbs at the vet! He is definitely on a diet.
FOB activities
I visit here daily to see what is happening. I am the state leader for Nebraska. There are 4 or 5 of us here! In a state like Nebraska its a bit of a tough sell, but I have found horse lovers are everywhere. Any rescues I have participated in are a direct result of ABR although sometimes it was not part of a drive or thread, I just donated to that rescue organization. I support rescues in my state, Epona Horse Rescue in Kearney, Best Little Horse House in Hastings. There are too many rescues for me to name, but i am especially impressed with Strawberry Mountain Mustangs, CA TB Rescue, Saving Horses Inc, Safe Haven in Northern CA, among others. Many of the rescues i did support have left ABR. I miss them all.
I would just like to say for the record that we need all rescues, big ones, small ones, growing ones, new ones learning, and experienced ones. When people criticize a rescue OVER AND OVER it is more than annoying, I feel it hurts ALL rescues.
Events besides Barbaro that almost did me in - Baby Mercedes at IHR South and Windchill.
Events that keep me doing this: Birth of Tilly's colt, Gus, at Epona Horse Rescue as tilly was nearly steaks in france but for a flat tire she would have been. All the wonderful people that do still come to abr despite the politics.
FOB Network
I would not say its a network.
My site and other sites that are useful
I dont have one and I really dont want one.
