DayBeforeHer B'Day

DayBeforeHer B'day, aka Daisy, was raced up until the age of 4, when she suffered heat stroke. She was sent to the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program (FLTAP), where she was adopted in February 2008. She was brought home to a small farm in Wayne County, and introduced to her new pasture mate, a slightly overweight, aged Haflinger named Morrie. Her first few days in the paddock with Morrie were somewhat stressful for her, as she had no idea what to do with herself. She decided to walk her energy off! That first week, she walked miles in the paddock. During those days, she also got Morrie to walk miles-she even got the pony to lose weight and tone up! She has since adapted to the paddock, and relaxing in the great outdoors-there is so much to see! Her first lesson was to learn how to approach a person in the paddock-we went through a lot of carrots that first week, but she will even walk up to strangers, now. She enjoys having her forehead scratched, and likes extra attention. Small victories have marked her progress-walking up to me in the paddock, standing on cross ties, trotting on a long lunge line, riding in horse traffic. She has begun taking lessons at Hunt Fields Equstrian Center, and has adapted well to the excitement of traveling for a lesson with other horses. She enjoys any kind of attention, and she has become popular at the lesson barn. She seems to look forward to the times I pull the trailer up to the barn, and is always willing to put faith in me to try something new. She is a sweet horse, with a wonderful personality. Her demeanor seems to impact everyone who comes in contact with her, including her pasture mate, who now runs to keep up with her. While I chose her because I just "had a feeling" when I saw her photo, I realize that she has also chosen me, and that is the greatest gift. I am indebted to the wonderful people at FLTAP, for taking Daisy in until I found her that fateful day, and took a chance. I am glad I did.
