DEVIL'S DROP EMD July 20 2007 3rd race 1m $7.5k claiming;Record Rainfall/ VERY Sloppy; Devil's Drop 3/g was bumped hard & fell right before the wire. The horse rolled over its shoulder/head , and lost jockey. After spill horse was unable to stand and was either a van off HORSE APPEARED TO BE HURT in this fall on the DVR tape. A very nasty looking spill in treacherous footing imo, though what caused the fall was the very hard bumping by another horse lugging inside. DNF. SABERTOOTH returns! Sabertooth dueled for lead from the inside and gave way
after the half. Last yr his first start off his layoff he took off like gangbusters,
so not to worry . His next starts should improve if all is well.Was the betting fav.

FYI:
I am keeping Sabertooth here for now; as he is getting older & he was up for
32000 claim in this optional claim. race He raced the same way his 1st outing
last year; but may be a step slower & a has little less endurance /this yrs 1st
start off his lay off. Somewhat of a class drop--- will look for him to
improve hopefully as he did last summer. He looked sharp & dueled the leader well;
the leader went on to win and is related to Sabertooth. Always a track favorite
to watch; Sabertooth still owns the WR he set at EMD at 7yrs of age. His new
trainer is Blaine Wright; last year he raced for Grant Forster. Sabertooth
spends his vac. time/off season at Homestretch Farm each year; his connections
give him needed rest during the off season.
AUGUST 2007 UPDATE: SABERTOOTH was claimed by TR: Linda Osborne for 15000
in August; rumors abound about Sabertooth may be taken to another part of the
country. Please watch for this horse. New owners: 61 Racing LLC

ZATS IT EMD July 22, 2007; Race 6; Clm 10000-8000; 3&up; 6f dirt; cloudy/sloppy; eqi trip notes "dueled inside, tired"; and "dueled for the lead along inside for a half and dropped out." Track announcer*: Oh, he's showing the whip early!" as horse was in first part of turn. Then he mentioned the horse was being driven hard and further down the track he says the horse is still being hard driven. Odds were 25.00 & the track was sloppy. If the horse had placed he'd have paid off well for those who bet him on the off track slop. I counted over 20 whip strokes, & I couldn't count them all. NOTE:Also see EASY RODNEY & ROB N GINS PRINCE, EXCLUSIVE MOLLY & on this watch list* I would like to be able to see these races of the above watch horses and focus on this jockey and see if there may be a pattern here or not. ADD NOTE: with each strike of the whip this horse dropped further and further back. I don't know what on earth the jockey was thinking when he kept whipping the horse despite the lack of response; and why he started whipping so early in the turn and stopped whipping so late.But it wasn't working or helping the animal run faster on the sloppy track.
