GRETCHEN & ROY JACKSON TO RECEIVE CONGRESSIONAL HONOR
AS A TRIBUTE TO BARBARO AT EQUINE ADVOCATES’
SIXTH ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER & CHARITY AUCTION AUGUST 2ND
Saratoga Springs, NY: Gretchen & Roy Jackson, owners of 2006 Kentucky Derby winner, Barbaro, will receive a Congressional Honor from US Representative Ed Whitfield as a tribute to their late, great champion at Equine Advocates Annual Awards Dinner & Charity Auction on August 2nd .
“We are deeply honored to have been recognized by the House of Representatives”, the Jackson’s said in a joint statement. “It is all Barbaro. He started it by crossing the finish line by 6 ½ lengths and the other by eight months of fighting to beat the odds. He has brought up many issues teaching us as well. Thank you indeed for such truly overwhelming recognition”.
The Jackson’s are outspoken advocates against the horrendous practice of horse slaughter which still exists in this country. They have campaigned tirelessly and lobbied Congress to ban this barbaric practice which is opposed by the vast majority of Americans. Whitfield, who represents Kentucky’s First District, is one of the most active members of Congress working to pass the horse slaughter ban.
“The Jackson’s continue to be a leading voice in the fight against horse slaughter,’ Rep. Whitfield said. “I believe their dedication and tireless work ethic will help lead to the eventual end of this cruel and inhumane practice of slaughtering horses for human consumption.”
This annual benefit at beautiful Stone Bridge Farm has become one of the best attended and most anticipated benevolent events of the Saratoga racing and social season. This year, power couple Madeleine & T. Boone Pickens will receive the Equine Advocates Safe Home Equine Protection Award for their work and dedication to ending the slaughter of America’s horses. Legendary entertainer, Liza Minnelli, will perform live in concert at the event. She is currently on a world tour.
“This year’s event will not only be thrilling on many levels,” said Equine Advocates’ President Susan Wagner, “but it will also be a call to arms. The Pickens’s and the Jackson’s have used their influence and celebrity in the most positive ways to stop a macabre practice that most Americans find repulsive. They are an inspiration to us all. This event will give us the opportunity to honor them, thank them and call on all Americans to urge this Congress to quickly pass H.R. 503 and S.311. Legislation banning horse slaughter is long overdue.”
Some limited tickets at $300 per person are still available, but must be purchased in advance. For more information, call: (518) 245-1599.
