HORSE EXPERIENCE
I'm very active in the anti-slaughter campaign.
I have networked with rescues/rescuers to save 500+ slaughter-bound horses since April 2006. (Most came from a NV feedlot that ships directly to a Canadian slaughter house, others came from breeders going out of business)
For 3 years I volunteered every weekend at The United Pegasus Foundation. They rescue/rehab/retire thoroughbreds, as well as rescue/adopt PMU mares & foals. I did everything from mucking stalls, grooming, gentling foals, etc. It was a wonderful experience!
I've assisted with fundraising events for United Pegasus Foundation, Return to Freedom - American Wild Horse Sanctuary, and The Grace Foundation.
I'm always on the lookout for ways to help horses/horse rescues.
I've taken several courses on natural horsemanship, and started riding lessons at 40!
FOB ACTIVITIES
I am committed to:
1. Ending Horse Slaughter
Visits, calls, emails, letters, postcards to Senators, Representatives & Other Decision Makers. Work with committees on special projects relative to stopping slaughter. Educate everyone I can about horse slaughter and urge them to take action.
2. Rescuing Horses from Feedlots & Other At-Risk Situations
I've facilitated the rescue of 500+ slaughter-bound horses. To do this, I raise funds, arrange placement of the horses with rescues, and schedule transport from the feedlot to the rescues. The rescues take it from there - handling quarantine; evaluating horses for health, soundness, temperament & training; matching the horses with appropriate adopters; screening adopters; and providing a safety net for the horses, in the form of adoption contracts.
3. Helping Horse Rescue Organizations
I've assisted many rescues with fundraising, adoption, business consulting, etc.
