Bio

Born horse crazy, and stayed crazy - LOL! Life started for me in California, to NY, to OK, to Israel, back to CA, then to UT, then to NV. Everywhere I've been I've found horses to ride and love. I have been an equine artist the last 10 years, working at home. To see my work: www.geocities.com/ansatacustoms/

Horse experience

As a kid rode my grandfather's draft horses while they plowed the field. At age 12 got a Mustang yearling filly and trained her myself. In my early twenties owned an Anglo-Arab mare and raised two 3/4 Arab colts from her. Showed in Arabian shows. Did some training and gave riding lessons to kids during this time. Also worked for a polo player as his horse walker and tack, to have each of his horses ready for the next quarter (or whatever it's called in Polo, I forgot, sign of old age). Had to sell my horses after a divorce. Stayed in contact with horses though over the years. In Israel worked a friend's Arabians in exchange for his working on my car. Had a friend on the Mt. of Olives - and would ride his horses out in the Judean desert. Went to Cairo every year and rented a horse by the Pyramids - the most wonderful rides of my life. Because of Barbaro I now own two horses, a Thoroughbred mare (rescued by the FOBs), and an Arabian gelding.

FOB activities

Was on the Tim Wooley site right after Barbaro's breakdown. Followed his whole time at NBC. Due to a fellow FOB's encouragement I started going to Miracle Horse Rescue and helping, and loving an old blind racehorse. Started posting my visits on the Barbaro site and encouraged others to do the same where ever they lived. Encouraged people to donate to horse rescues. As a result an FOB started the "In Honor of Barbaro Challenge". This was to purchase and save several horses from probable slaughter at an Oregon auction. From that point everything dominoe(sp?), and we have today this wonderful website to document the whole story. I adopted one of those horses, a dapple grey TB mare. She is blind in her right eye, but that does not slow her down one bit. Her name is Zamara.
