Thanks to everyone who bowled and made pledges for the Pins For Ponies fundraiser yesterday. We had a lot of fun , ate some really bad -for- us bowling alley junk food,and best of all , raised money to allow NLER to "lock in" a good supply of hay for the winter. Thanks also to everyone who helped in the planning of this first annual ( we hope) event. As always , it was great seeing so many MD FsOB and their families.

Stinkiest bowler refers to bowler with the WORST game-- it is not meant to cast aspersions on hygiene. LOL This bowler got a nice Barbaro card with a redeemable certificate for a big bag of Garden Gold-- you know ... that stuff we scoop!

CONCEPT:

In the realm of wacky ideas to build up the hay fund for NLER, we are organizing a DUCKPIN bowling fundraiser.(For those who are unfamiliar, duckpin bowling balls are small and so are the pins. Duckpins are indigenous to the Mid-Atlantic/East coast.) The aim is to get at least 30 bowlers to bowl on a Sunday afternoon (date yet to be determined but we are looking at November before the holidays). The lanes in Parkville where I bowl on Tuesdays can accomodate us. The bowlers would be charged an entry fee to cover lane rentals and incidentals, including prizes.There should be some amount left over from the entry fee to go to NLER. But the real money maker comes from the pledges the bowlers will be securing for their total pincount for 2 games of bowling. We will also give pledgers the option of a straight donation if they don't have confidence that the bowler is that good! (LOL) We also plan to snag bowlers and supporters in a 50/50 raffle as well! I already have 10 bowlers who have expressed an interest. More details will be forthcoming but this is what I need from you all in the interim. First, please let me know if you are interested in being one of the bowlers, Trust me ... it will be fun!

Second, please let me know what Sunday afternoon in November ( avoiding Thanksgiving weekend) is best for you.

Third, please let me know whether you are interested in helping out on the day of the event even if you aren't going to bowl. We want to have a table with rescue and slaughter information available. We will also need help to check people in ,collect checks and other donations,etc. Finally, please let me know if you would be willing to seek pledges on behalf of some bowlers so we can really maximize the profits.

This weekend I will work on putting together fliers and pledge sheets. I will probably also start a new thread on the whole fundraiser once we get date/time, etc firmed up. I'm really excited about this and I hope we can buy many bales of hay with the proceeds. Please check back over the next few days for more info!

UPDATES

The unofficial poll on dates indicates that that 11/11 or    
11/18 are the best dates for most. I am leaning toward the
11th.                                                         
                                                             
9/20/07 - Ok. I have a confirmed date and a reservation on
          the lanes for 11/11 at 1pm. We are looking to get
          at least 30 bowlers who will bowl 2 games for which
          they will get pledges. This will all take place at
          Parkville Bowling Lanes, 7605 Harford Road ( in the
          Parkville Shopping Center). They throw in a pizza
          and pitcher of soda for every lane and I think we
          can add some other goodies-- like pastries, chips,
          pretzels. I think an "entry" fee of $25.00 will
          more than cover the cost of rental, small prizes
          and provide about $300 to NLER. The whole event
          should take about 2 hours. This weekend, I'll put
          together a pledge sheet.
