Ferdinand won the 1986 Kentucky Derby. He won the 1987 Breeders' Cup Classic and was voted Horse of the Year for 1987. In 2002 he was slaughtered. Ferdinand was an inspiration for Old Friends. Sired by Nijinsky II.
