Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa. I have been a horse lover since the age of 6. My parents got me riding lessons for my tenth birthday, and I was hooked. I ride English, and took lessons all through my teenage years. College came along, as did lots of exciting changes in my life. I am an RN, specializing in open heart ICU, but also enjoy working in the Surgical ICU as well. I met my husband Bob about 1 year after graduating from nursing school, and we have been together ever since. We moved around A LOT within the past 7 years because of his fellowship and good job opportunities. We have lived in Baltimore, MD and Las Vegas, NV. We have returned home to the lovely Lehigh Valley, near Allentown, PA. We have 2 beautiful daughters, Sonia & Priya. Things have finally settled down enough around here, and now I have time to spend with the horses again. I loved Barbaro since the Florida Derby, and was elated when he won the Kentucky Derby. I found ABR/TWR after B's injury, and I have made countless friends here. This forum has truly been a blessing. It is awesome to meet other people who love horses as much as I do! I adopted my Thoroughbred gelding, P.K. Jack, through this board. I love him so much. He is a wonderful horse, and I don't know how I ever lived without him.

Horse experience

I have been around horses for most of my life. I enjoy pleasure riding with my sweet Jack. Jack is semi-retired. He has lots of friends at our barn. I ride him lightly. He gets to relax most of the time. I think that he deserves a nice retirement. He is 19 years old now, and has done it all. He was shown as a hunter/jumper, and was good enough to be shown at the Devon Horse Show! He jumped 4 foot fences and was shown on the intercollegiate show circut. He has dressage training, and was even used as a lesson horse. He is a big guy, standing 17.2+ hands high. He is a beautiful bay gelding. He has a star that is shaped exactly like the state of New Jersey. He was foaled on March 12, 1988 at Quarry Rock Farm in Pennsylvania. He is by Rex Imperator out of Raise O'Gram, by Raise Your Glass. He never raced. He is such a sweet boy. I feel so lucky to have him. His former owner moved out of state, and was looking for a good home for him. She had no luck, so she contacted several local rescues. Unfortunately, they were all full at the time. Jen (Midnight1) and Laurie (Ponytale1976) posted him on the board, and I found him! He was exactly what I had been looking for and he was only 20 minutes away from me! He needed me just as much as I needed him. We arranged a meeting, and it was love at first sight. He is an amazing horse, and I am eternally grateful to eveyone who helped me find him! :) Jack's updates can be found under the "updates for horses supported" thread under the title "TB gelding needs good home PA- P.K. Jack".

FOB activities

I had the wonderful experience of attending the Deleware Park Celebration of Barbaro's life. We had a great time, and I got to meet lots of very nice FOB's. I have also attended Lifelines Farm's Bumpkinfest. We had a blast! Tee's horses are gorgeous, and Tee is a wonderful person. I have donated to Lifelines Hay Drive, and will continue to donate to Lifelines in the future. Lifelines is a wonderful rescue and I would encourage others to meet Tee and her horses. I have also donated to try to save Five Alarm Flyer. Sadly, she was lost, but another life was saved in her place. Losing her is even more incentive to have horse slaughter permanently ended in our country. Before I found Jack, I was searching for TB's on Canter PA's website, and she was in my top 3! I was devastated to learn that she ended up in a kill pen, and ultimatley shipped to slaughter. It breaks my heart. :( I am also a member of the PA calling group to help end the slaughter and exportation of our horses for slaughter.

FOB Network

I have so many friends here! I don't want to list everyone and end up forgetting someone. If you are a FOB, you are a friend to me!!!! :)
