My name is Lucille Matte, I live in Houston, Texas and have worked in the mortgage industry since the mid 80’s. If you ever need help with a mortgage please contact me at www.mortgagematte.com.
I found my way to ABR shortly after Barbaro passed away. I was on the front page of MSNBC where it said “see what people are saying about Barbaro” when I clicked on it I was directed to the MSNBC horse racing BB where I saw “Please help stop the unnecessary slaughter of horses” I couldn’t believe it so I clicked and well the rest is history. Ever since then all I care about is stopping horse slaughter. If anyone ever needs any help getting started in our daily fight to stop horse slaughter, please ask and I will do what ever I can to help you. Every voice matters.
Horse experience
I was raised with horses (in the Lima area of Ohio) and love them more than I can explain. I remember as my older brother and sister saddled up, being told “you can’t go Lucille you are too little” I did what any 6 year old would do I cried my head off LOL. My 3 year old little sister (Dianne) didn’t understand why I couldn’t be happy just crawling on the ground under the picnic table with her. That didn’t last long. The ponies came Topsey and Friskey, mother and daughter, mustang ponies. Topsey was nice and Friskey was well, a brat. They didn’t like people much, were just left out in a field by themselves for most of their life. It didn’t take too long before Dianne and I were riding them. A few years later Samuel Dean was born there on the farm, later he would be mine. He was a doll and followed me everywhere just like a puppy. I was around 10 when I graduated to horses and my sister’s friend Betsy took over Topsey and Dianne graduated to Friskey, boy was that fun Sir Walter Raven was my first horse to ride all by myself. He came to the farm from Sugar Creek, I didn’t know about horse slaughter then, but now I would believe he was probably saved from slaughter. He was skinny but not for long. I loved him he was a sweetheart. A beautiful TWH. I have a picture of him I will get scanned so you can see ~ one of these days. Samuel Dean followed Raven like he was his mother (his birth mother not far behind) not sure if it was Raven or me…
At the age of 12 I broke and trained Samuel Dean, he was all mine and boy was he smart. People were impressed with my training ability at such a young age. I earned my first 100 dollar bill at the age of 12 when a man from the other side of town was looking for someone to work with a horse he bought for his daughter. The horse would only go backward when you mounted him. I was suggested for the job and off I went for 2 weeks, straight after school my mom would take me to his farm and I would work with this horse who would only go backwards. After about one week of going backward and me jumping on and off, he finally took his first leap forward, a very fast leap forward. After 2 weeks he was trained and his daughter too. The man placed a 100 dollar bill in my hand, WOW that was a lot of money in 1974 and for a 12 year old.
I could go on for weeks about my youth and horses and will some day. Sad truth is I grew up and moved away to Houston without a horse. The happy news is I know each and every one of our horses lived their lives out and died in peace at the farm. I can rest at night a little better because of that. If I knew then what I know now, I would have never left that life, ever. Now all I have are other peoples horses which I am very grateful for and hope to change real soon.

I have finally broke down to do my wiki because Shirley (Equine Angel) wants me to start a thread for on going support for Animals' Angels investigations and so how could I refuse? Animals' Angels EXPOSES the horror and abuse of horse slaughter. I believe EXPOSURE will save the horses.
