Rosie's Story

TB mare needs help/rescue needs funds
ACHE, (Animal Cruelty Heartline El Paso), is a small, one woman 501.3c that responds to aniaml cruelty reports and seizes animals, investigates complaints, educates owners, and helps build cases against neglectful owners. They have a facility with approx 30 rescued dogs, and have rescued about 10 horses this year. (They used to not "do" horses, but I started volunteering for them last year and found willing foster facilities, and gave "Jessie" the owner/pres of ACHE, info on horse abuse/neglect.) All 10 horses have recovered, and are in adoptive/foster homes.
Jessie truly is an advocate for the animals. I've gone with her on cruelty calls, and she always tries to do what is best for the animals.
Because she is a small organization, she doesn't get the massive donations that large organizations do. I really want to see her continue to be able to help horses. If anyone can help, it is much appreciated. She could use any horse stuff like halters/leads, wormers, wound care products, etc.
Here is Rosie's story, the most recent rescue-
Rosie was found Friday of last week in a canal in the far eastside desert area. Animal Control was called out and they took her out of the canal and transported her to their facility on Fred Wilson. She was found still wearing her saddle and in really bad shape.
As you can see by the pictures she has some extremely bad injuries. The one on her withers is by far the worst one. Her skin was starting to rot by Sunday and her bone is exposed. We are not sure what happened to her but I tend to believe that she might have been used by people smuggling illegal aliens. She had shoes on her hoofs, which tells us that someone needed her to be able to move in rough terrain. She is extremely emaciated which also leads me to believe that she was just being used to serve someone's purpose because anyone that loves their horse would not be riding her in this condition. Also on her saddle there is a purple stain right underneath the area were her withers are which might tell us that someone was applying some kind of wound lotion to that area yet still riding her in that condition. She might have just gotten away from them or they let her go out in the desert because they had no use for her anymore because of her injuries. She has many other smaller injuries on her body.
She is 23 years old and came off the racetrack at some point that we know because her tattoo gives us that information. What happened to her now is not important the only thing that matters is that we now have her in a WONDERFUL foster home. Terri is being awarded the Equine Foster Mom Award for 2007. She will be cared for loved and when ready we will place her in a wonderful loving home.
Rehabilitating horses is an extremely rewarding experience but also very costly. Rosie is the 10th Horse Animal Cruelty Heartline has rescued and of course any help we can get for her would be greatly appreciated. Here is a list of some of the things we could use:
Grass Hay Alfalfa Equine Senior Grain A nice new Halter for her with lead rope - Extra Large Horse Treats Money to help us pay for her medications and Vet Bill. All your donations are Tax-Deductible.
Looking into the future we will also need our own trailer and truck to transport horses when we find them and need to move them right away.
Rosie has been through a very horrible experience we are just grateful that someone reported her to Animal Control and immediately they sent out a trailer to go get her. She is a loving sweet girl who did not deserve the treatment she got. Whatever time she has left here on earth we will make sure she will be loved and treated with dignity and respect! PLEASE SEND THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS!
