Bio
I've loved horses my entire life. After a brief time as barn employee in an Appaloosa show stable as a teenager, my jobs led in other directions. Currently I am in Economic Development and administer grants to economically distressed areas. It's both an interesting and rewarding position.
Horse experience
I am still working toward owning my first horse(s). My goal? Two that can be ridden on trail rides and two pasture pets that need a forever home. I'm still working on the funding to achieve the goal!!! (smile)
Don't tell the cats...they aren't going to like it.
Each weekend that I volunteer at AC4H I learn so much. It won't be too long before I am ready to be a responsible steward.
FOB activities
The first Kentucky Derby I remember was 1971 when Canonero II won. Big Red was one of my first loves. Ruffian was the first horse I grieved over...and certainly not the last. To this day I cannot watch or read the books and movies about her. I was a big fan of Sham, Go For Gin, Alydar, Winning Colors, Genuine Risk, Strike the Gold, Lil E. Tee, Smarty Jones and of course, Barbaro.
After Barbaro's heart-wrenching injury in the Preakness of 2006, I found my way to ABR. I was hungry for any news of the injured horse, and like many ABR became my first stop in the morning.
A large group of people bonded over this brave, injured horse and his human connections. We quickly became educated on horse slaughter, and like most of the unknowing nation, we were appalled. Being a small time animal advocate, I involved myself in writing letters to the editor and educating locally.
In October of 2006 I was fortunate to have a lengthy OP/ED piece printed in our local paper:
I:\Equine Matters\Pennlive Letter to the Editor.htm
After that I was invited to become the Pennsylvania Ambassador for www.campaigningforbarbaro.com. I also became the Team Barbaro Pennsylvania leader and my team and I strategically contact PA Reps and Senator Casey weekly to work on co-sponsorship and support for S 311/HR 503.
In July I made my first trip to Another Chance For Horses, located in Bernville, PA. I was hooked! I now volunteer my time and get to be hands on with the horses weekly. I can stress enough how rewarding it is to go and spend time helping these horses to heal, learn and be rehomed into a loving, forever environment.

FOB Network
I've met so many wonderful people! I am part of the www.campaigningforbarbaro team with Shelley and Debra. I have an awesome PA team of over 50 volunteers advocating for our horses.
